Women’s Prison Yoga Project
A few months ago, a fellow yoga teacher asked me to participate in the Women’s Prison Yoga Project. After a lot of thought I decided to do it and will be teaching classes to the inmates at Carswell Federal Women’s Prison three to four times in the next year. Two weeks from today is my first class and I’m more than a little nervous. Maximum security isn’t exactly the relaxing atmosphere I’m used to teaching in, but I can’t imagine a place where the need for yoga is higher. Does anyone have any experience teaching yoga in non-traditional surroundings? Any advice would be appreciated!
